Presentation to Fyne Ales for "Piper's Gold" : Beer of the Year 2007 : 14 June 2008

Pictures by Euan Fraser

Seventeen members of Glasgow & West of Scotland CAMRA were blessed with a wonderful sunny day for their trip to Glen Fyne to present Jonny and Tuggy Delap of Fyne Ales Brewery with a Beer of the Year 2008 Award for their excellent pale quaffing beer Piper's Gold. Loch Fyne is well known as containing some of the purest water in Scotland and the brewery gets it before it reaches the loch, so maybe that is part of their secret. Of course, the recent addition to the staff of an ex Oakham brewer won't have done any harm either! Certainly everyone enjoyed sampling several Fyne Ales in perfect condition. Thanks must also go to Tuggy for supplying us with delicious buffet accompaniments. For those interested in nature, Jonny offered a lift further up the glen to meet their charming highland coos and see wild orchids, birds and other wildlife residing there. It was a perfect day out and Tuggy seemed especially pleased to receive and hold the trophy cup for a year.
